The Scriptorium
Here is the area where much of the study and preservation of knowledge
occurs. Through the Dark Ages monastic scriptoria preserved the text of not
only the Bible, but of many ancient pagan works of wisdom. Most of what
we know from the Greeks and Romans comes from monastic scriptoria. It is also
where the education of young monks occurred, and still does in contemplative houses.
